After we finished playing on it, I put my newbie kiter wife on it. She loved it too! Relaunch was simple for her, the spider bridle refused to wrap when she rolled it, and the turning speed and light bar pressure left a big smile on her face. She had grown accustomed to flying a 9m all terrain Best TS and was hesitant to get on something so aggressive, but was pleasantly surprised. So there you have it. The new Nitro outperforms one of the biggest names in big air kiting, yet is simple and forgiving enough for a newbie to learn on. Big Air Freeride

The Nitro has always been the perfect high performance freeride machine for anyone looking to enjoy massive big air tricks. All the key elements are there: control, power, speed, strength and ease of use. This perfect balance has given the Nitro a cult following and made it our number 1 selling kite.

  • Ultimate boost, extended hang time, soft landings
  • Maximum wind range
  • Direct power turns
  • Light-to-medium bar pressure
  • Easy re-launch including reverse launch

What's new?

The new Nitro6 is the most refined version in the history of the Nitro line. Although the Nitro6 closely resembles the Nitro5 when viewed aloft, every seam and panel has been changed to optimize the design for improved overall performance and handling. The Nitro6 is a completely new kite entirely designed to be the best Nitro ever without losing the traditional dynamic character.

- The Nitro6 airfoil has been completely re-profiled moving the draft aft in the center and reducing the entry angle for a cleaner, smoother de-power response. The profile has also been reduced and smoothed spanwise toward the wingtips for less luffing in the shoulders and overall drag reduction. The Nitro6 canopy is tight and exhibits less distortion throughout the bar throw.
- Second, the planform has been changed with increased sweep starting in the shoulders and extending to the wingtip to improve relaunch, structural and dynamic stability, and de-powered line tension.
- Third, due to the change in profile, the struts have been re-designed to not only match the profile changes but to enhance stability, reduce weight and increase durability. In concert with the planform change, the Leading Edge tube has also been reconfigured accordingly.

Improvments from version 5

- 8% lighter and increased durability through good design
- Faster turning speed and boost
- Better loops
- Improved and reliable relaunch
- Shorter, smoother depower bar throw and smoother in gusty conditions.

Is this kite right for you

High-flying big-air masters or riders who just love to high speed cruising will equally find the Nitro answering their prayers. The Nitro brings performance kiting to a whole new level of ease and response.

Power Wingtips

Longer angled wingtips move the front and rear tow points apart providing more leverage for turning and sheeting with lower bar pressure. The increased wingtip area creates additional lift during manoeuvres for enhanced turning and longer float in jumps. The moved back steering line tow point location and greater wingtip area provide reverse launch and increased re-launch leverage in lighter winds. The more forward power line tow point location improves de-power.

Kiteboarding Nitro 6 Freeride Big Air Kite - Power Wingtips

Spider Bridle

We have created a totally new and innovative short bridle that has the look of a Spiders web, one of the most beautiful, light and strong constructs found in nature. The upper ‘Spider’ portion of the bridle stabilizes the mid-to-shoulder areas of the kite while simultaneously controlling the wingtips limiting flaring and oscillating movements. The lower portion optimally positions the front tow point for de-power and turning. The ‘Spider Junction,’ where the two portions meet allows the kite to tip with no change in the load distribution along the leading edge. The result is quick, yet smooth de-power, fast turning, lower bar pressure and consistent rear line tension for control sheeted out. Re-launch is improved and tangles are eliminated. The Spider has unlocked the true potential of the Nitro series.

5-Strut Design

High Aspect (span squared/area) maximizes lift while reducing drag for efficiency and upwind speed and angle. 5-Struts provide canopy shape stability to create power without distortion.

Kiteboarding Freeride Big Air Kite Nitro 6 - Constant curve leading edge

Constant curve leading edge

The canopy shape is supported by a defined constant curve Leading Edge tube design without any flat sections or nodal corners. This allows us to create a rigid structure with reduced tube diameters for a more efficient lower drag shape and improved performance.

Trailing Edge Flow Control

Lightweight, 4 layered internally glued Monofilm stiffeners are strategically placed along the trailing edge to increase efficiency by minimizing coning and eliminating flapping.

Kiteboarding Freeride Big Air Kite Nitro 6 - Canopy Material

Canopy Material

Next to the actual kite design, the canopy fabric plays a very important role in your kite’s performance. Fabrics, with different stretch characteristics, will have an important effect on bar pressure, turning speed and the overall crisp feeling of your kite. A quick and lively kite can become dull and slow with heavy bar pressure when made with a different material. SwitchKites is constantly testing different materials in our test laboratory and in real life applications. After 16 months of testing, for our Element4, we have chosen a new 56 gr/m2 double rip stop fabric which has a 37% higher puncture tensile strength in the critical warp direction, with minimal weight increase. Being truly an all-terrain kite, we felt this feature was important for our customers who will use there kites in all possible demanding conditions.

Kiteboarding Freeride Big Air Kite Nitro 6 - Trailing Edge Material

Trailing Edge Material

Modern kite fabrics are incredibly strong and durable considering their light weight. However, the two main enemies are UV and flapping. Unfortunately, a brand new kite sitting on the beach in high winds can be destroyed within a few hours as the rigorous fabric movement during flapping causes the coating of the cloth to break down prematurely permanently weakening it. Unfortunately there are instances where flapping cannot be avoided. We therefore use Chang Ho TT887, a 78 gr/m2 double rip-stop fabric which has a 173% higher tensile strength and excellent wind-flapping resilience in the trailing edge sections. As a result, we have substantially prolonged the life expectancy of this critical kite section.

We use Dimension-Polyant Dacron exclusively. Dimension-Polyant Dacron is the only sailcloth manufacturer with its own ultra- modern sailcloth-weaving mill and a unique finishing plant where the fabrics pass through a 14-stage program. Weaving, finishing and laminating – all in one location, made in Germany. It’s the most stable and durable structure that ensures the designed shape is retained for ultimate performance.

Double Dacron Strut Joints and Valve Positions

All stitching locations on any struts are internally reinforced first with Dacron and then adhesive-backed Dacron Mark Cloth to ensure the stitching doesn’t compromise the material. Strut seams are double stitched with a larger thread. Strut attachments are reinforced with webbing and all valve positions have extra reinforcing to prevent blowouts under high pressures and crashes.

Reinforced Strut/Canopy Attachment

We added an additional layer of Canopy material and a doubled angular reinforcement at the Leading Edge in all strut areas to create a solid foundation for our struts and reduce impact failure during high velocity crashes.

Canopy Attachment

Why are we not using one single row of three-step zigzag like all the others? Every added hole in the leading edge weakens the structure. If you need to add holes, they must be spaced out as far as possible. We use a more time consuming two rows of two-step zigzag to produce considerable added strength to the design.

Nitro 6 - 8M - a great strong wind kite for beginnersReview by Don

Beginners need more optimized kite sizing than advanced riders. I was recently kiting at the North Sunshine Skyway Bridge in Tampa Bay. Wind was 20 knots with gusts to 28 and my (other brand) 10.5M was just a bit much; even with full depower the gusts were pulling me off my edge. I put up my new Nitro 6 - 8 M and it was wonderful! Excellent kite for the conditions let me lean into it and pull as hard as I wanted for speed. Kite was easy to control and still being sort of a beginner I crashed a bunch ... so I can confirm that the kite relaunches quite well. I don't have enough experience to compare this kite with other brands ... I can only tell you that it is working great for me ... I don't know what more I could expect.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjWzUYjz6y4
The only other thing that I'd say is that I strongly disagree with the Switch policy on supplying inflation nozzles. They only supply one (1) with a pump or bag ... none with a kite purchase. I give credit to their customer support folks for sending me one when I complained. But their policy needs to be reconsidered ... what are they thinking??? ... customers inflate the kite, not the bag! Come on Switch ... its a mistake to compromise customer satisfaction by witholding a < $1 plastic nozzle ... you should be sending 2 with each kite. I now own 2 Switch kites and they've only supplied 1 nozzle because I also bought a bag!?! Sorry for the rant ... I really like my 2 Switch kites (18M H2 and 8M Nitro 6) and I think I'm getting great value through their disintermediary business model. I want Switch to succeed so I'm helping by pointing out this unnecessary business risk. (Posted on 3/05/17)

Finally I tested my Nitro6 10m! It's insanely good! I did not expect it to be as good, despite all the positive reviews.
If you work well with your board for a boost - prepare to fly, kite just shoots you out from the water and you hang high and long. Kite glides though the air very nicely, but for redirecting it you do need to put some effort.
Very first day I jump higher that I've ever been with any other kite in choppy conditions. Can't wait to try in boosting from waves.
It's very stable, very tough. I got orange black version and it looks way better than in photos.

I have flown every version of the nitro throughout the years and this one by far is the best of all. It is as advertised. HUGE air, much better turning speed. The kite does stay in the air better in lighter winds due the decrease in weight of the newer construction. I'm dying to try it foiling compared to v5. The wind range seems to be huge as usual. Its a slam dunk overall... (Posted on 26/03/17)

Reviewed: sizes 9m / 12m / 14m (4-line setup) on twin-tip.

Quality: good, it is up there with most of the other main brands. So far I have not encountered any issues. Great looking kites.

Performance: great, it’s very stable in gusty conditions and has amazing boost + support through the jump, excellent turning speed (improvement on the v5) and light bar pressure. Comparable to a Cabrinha Switchblade / Ozone Edge / North Rebel, though not likely to de-throne them as they all have their pros/cons. You do need to fly it fairly aggressively, and they are best kept dynamic especially at the lower end of the wind range. It is a bit average in surf and chopping conditions (not bad but certainly there are much better products out there for this). Good de-power and re-launch is moderately easy.

Summary: definitely for intermediate to advanced riders, wouldn’t suggest for people entering the sport as they take a bit of getting used to and there are far better / easier options in the market for beginners. They are awesome fun in the top ⅔ of the advertised wind range, lift like you wouldn’t believe, but sadly the bottom ⅓ is well over-rated. Not much of a difference between the 12m and 14m, heavier and far slower for flying in lower wind conditions. Overall, these are great kites and I’m happy to have made the leap. (Posted on 26/02/17)

Just had my first ride on the Nitro6 10m .
Coming from a North Rebel the Nitro was very easy to adjust too.
I really enjoyed how smooth and nice the kite felt from my first run.
The main difference that I had noticed it that the kite had a lot more range than my rebel.
I could hold the kite in more wind and get up wind easier.
The Jumps I got on the nitro did not disappoint either . All in all I would highly recommend looking into this kite.
For the $$ the quality and performance in super.

I was on the fence in making the purchase as I could not get my hands on a Demo to try in my area. This was a negative as a lot of other brands have riders that demo their gear.
I just went for it and really did not have any expectations.

Quality- I have to say is as good if not better than all the Top brands.
Flying performance -honestly surprised me . The kite is super smooth with outstanding low end and up wind ability. Coming from a Switchblade I could feel the Nitro went up wind a lot easier once planning. Wish I had tried it earlier as it would have saved me some dollars and kept the wife happy.
I would highly recommend this product. (Posted on 3/02/17)

When I received the Nitro6 a couple of months ago the first impression was the beautiful color combination and also the material looks very strong. It slightly changed in shape form the Nitro V5.
When I used it in the water the fun starts immediately. The first thing I noticed is the fast turning speed and the stability.
The best part of the Nitro6 comes on the jumps. I haven't find a kite that make so easy to jump: nice and high take off, very often lift you up higher than you may think and.... keep going up... and while you may thing before hand how you want to land, a beautiful glide comes from the kite that make everything easy and however you move it will bring you to a very smooth landing and you will find exactly the kite where you wanted it.
I would recommend this kite to anyone. from the beginner to the expert rider.

Finally got a chance to fly my 10m Nitro6 yesterday. I must have ordered it about a month ago, but hasn't been windy enough to use. I also own the 12m Nitro5 and 8m Element5. All three are great kites. 12m is a little heavy, but once its in the air, its fine. Yesterday started off pretty windy so I used my 8m Element5 for a couple of hours which is always a treat.

Wind backed off so I pumped the 10m Nitro6. Definitely turns faster than my 12m Nitro5 (which it should) and not quite as fast as my 8m Element, but pretty close and totally acceptable. Element pivots while the Nitro turns. If you like flying 5 strut kites and get the flying characteristics Nitro offers, this kite delivers. Construction is top notch, graphics look great in the sky (I bought the black/orange) and doesn't weigh a lot. I put it in the water once and had no problems relaunching. My kiting is off the beach in choppy conditions and mostly twin-tip. I'll hop on my directional periodically.

I've only had one session, but it delivered a 'wow' factor. Can't wait to use it again. (Posted on 29/01/17)

No words...
Well, I'll try to write something, but, actually, when I came off the water after my first try of the Nitro6 I had no words. How can be possible that a kite can work so fine in so many different styles of kiting and in so bad conditions that I had the day I tried it? Off-shore wind, Nitro6 9 meters, unstable wind 13-25 knots. Underpowered sometimes so you had to move the kite and overpowered sometimes, typical shity gusty wind.

Well, I couldn't believe how comfortable I could ride. The bar feeling is soft and direct at the same time so you never get tired in your forearms and at the same time you can calibrate the kite power in an total intuitive way. It's so comfortable... Going upwind is just a kids game.
First surprise, the comfortable riding. Great! Let's see what happen with jumps. In so gusty wind is very typical to go very high with the gust and suddenly you are dropped if the gust dissapear. With the Nitro6 I didn't feel that, it's like a Parachute! I went really really high with this kite and when the gust sttoped I didn't worried because instead of being dropped to the water, the kite sustained me and gave me a soft landing. I cannot imagine how many seconds this kite would take you jumping in good wind conditions. Great hangtime!

First surprise, comfort, second surprise, jumping and hangtime, let's go for the freestyle. What? Freestyle in a non C-kite? Yes. I went for some handlepasses with kite at 45 degree and it was another surprise. They were easy even in that conditions. Total stability of the kite during the trick unhooked, you always know where the kite is, no hard pressure in the bar, super slack, everything was the same as in a freestyle kite. Unbelievable!

First surprise, super comfort, second surprise, jumping and hangtime, third surprise, Freestyle. What else can we ask for? Waves! Also good for waves? Yes! The depower performance of this kite is so good that you never feel you are going off the wave and the stability is so good that you only have to think about the wave your enjoying and forget about the kite.

So, here you have a kite which works perfect for:
- Freeriding, relaxed and comfortable with super upwind performance
- Jumping and hangtime
- Freestyle
- Waves

All the disciplines in one kite? Yes:

I had now a few session on the Nitro 6 in 7 and 9m and I'm in love. The kite stay super stable in the air. I had never a kite before which was able to handle gusts better than the N6, the spider bridle system works just perfect. The boost of the kite is really mind blowing. Nice lift and a huge air time. I ride the kite also in the waves because I like powerful turns. For perfect down the line wave riding the Element is definitely more the right choice. But if you are an advanced rider and looking for a a powerful allrounder I'm sure you will love the N6 too.

I've had my new Nitro 6 14m for about 2 months now. I've had it out in 10 - 20 knots.
I've been kiting for 5 years and weigh around 85kg so the 14m is my light to mid wind kite.

First impressions are great. Quality, workmanship, and materials are top notch. As good if not better than any other brand kite I've had.

Out on the water I found the Nitro 6 to do everything you would expect from a modern kite. Depower, wind range, safety and great all-around usability.
The key areas where I found the nitro to excel in are:
Speed - You feel comfortable and in total control at top speed. It also carries its speed up wind too.
Jumping - It hands down jumps higher and with the longest hangtime of any 14m kite I've ever flown. But best of all during jumps you feel in total control, No more sketchy landings!!

So to wrap it up I'm absolutely stoked on this kite. Everything I could of asked for in a new kite with quick delivery and at the best price I could find. (Posted on 11/01/17)

More powerful and faster than V5Review by Jun Switch
This week I got 10m,12m NitroV6 and was able to try those for the first time today.I was very surprised by its hang time and Turing speed.I feel that New NitroV6 is more powerful and its turning speed is faster than NitroV5.In addition to that, V6 can control the turning arc to be smaller than V5, so I could easily make mega kite loop.Regarding the relaunch performance, I'll test it in a few days and review it. I finally got to take the new Nitro out today. My friend and I put it through its paces, comparing it to the new 10m Element and a 10m Naish Torch using the Woo. We both fell in love with it, and he plans on getting one now too. My highest jump on it was 31.9 ft, which was over 3 feet higher than I got with the Torch. It also consistently gave me longer hang time than the Torch, but slightly less than the new Element. Martin had a few jumps that probably went into the high 30s. Doing this without being overpowered, having no good waves to launch off of, and in that nasty Kailua chop is very impressive. Beating Naish's flagship big air kite is no small matter either.
Considering that it's at least $500 cheaper than the other big name brands, I'd say it's time to point and laugh at all the others (Posted on 13/05/17)
Nitro 6 - 8M - a great strong wind kite for beginnersReview by Don

There's a big chance I will get an 8m soon too (Posted on 24/04/17)

I have flown every version of the nitro throughout the years and this one by far is the best of all. It is as advertised. HUGE air, much better turning speed. The kite does stay in the air better in lighter winds due the decrease in weight of the newer construction. I'm dying to try it foiling compared to v5. The wind range seems to be huge as usual. Its a slam dunk overall... (Posted on 26/03/17)

I hope switch keeps this design for many years to come, the boost, hang time, speed and general feel of the kite is insane! Other kite companies are going to take years to catch up with the Nitro V6.

Nitro 6 It is very easy to fly, excellent performance and and very easy to love.
Well deserved 5 stars. (Posted on 29/01/17)
Nitro6 10m greate kite!Review by Bill
