Overview //Nitro4

Performance Freeride and high flying Airstyle.

  • Deep profile 5 strut wing design for maximum power output
  • High aspect ratio open C design
  • Instant re-launch including reverse launch
  • Smooth 100% depower within the bar throw
  • Light to medium adjustable bar pressure
  • Fast turning with constant power featuring a fixed bridle without pulleys
  • High performance with ease of use

After 4 successful years, the Nitro is one of our top selling kites and has managed to create a cult like following. The key characteristics: lift, power, speed, ease of use and pure fun to fly, satisfy many and leave them convinced it’s the perfect kite.

Is this kite right for you?

The Nitro4 is the perfect kite for most riders. However; if you’re into down the line wave riding and only use a surfboard, go with the Element. The Nitro4 can master Ho’okipa but requires more flying skill than our Element.
Also, if you are a beginner and still need to work on your kite skills, The Element will better suit you.

What's new?

The new Nitro4 has lifted the game once again.

Bigger Air - Big air has always been a major part of the Nitro’s ethos. We didn’t think it was possible but with the Nitro4 we have increased the height and hang time once again.

More Control - By adding more bridle attachment points we managed to free up the kite despite its fixed bridle. This new bridle design allows the kite to tip steadily, and you will notice a smooth and gradual depower over the complete bar throw without losing steering.

Faster Turns - The added freedom of the new bridle design allows the kite to instantly respond to your steering input. Direct and precise.

Solid Shape - Added structural support make the Nitro4 rock solid even during extreme high powered moves like big air and mega loops.

More Sizes - We’ve listened to you and eliminated the 6m but added a 7m and 9m instead. You now will be able to build a perfect 2 kite quiver to cover your complete wind range.

Stronger - Several new fabrics are now used for our complete Nitro4 production. The new canopy materials include two double ripstop fabrics – a light weight version for the main canopy and a nearly indestructible heavier for the trailing edge. These fabrics feature extremely high tensile strength, retain the shape even after prolonged use and are more resistant to all the other stress and abuse our kites are exposed to. An oversized special shaped canopy reinforcing patch at the strut connections significantly decreases the potential for catastrophic canopy failures in extreme use or crashes.
The German Dimension-Polyant 175LL remains for the leading edge tube for ultimate structural stability and strength.

More Line Slack – The new bridle design gives the kite more freedom. It now allows the kite to tip freely and this creates the line slack you look for after your pop.
The Nitro4 is now very well suited for unhooked riding and freestyle.

Nitro V4 14m - user friendly lightwind/boost machineReview by Michal - Syd
I'm a 77kg rider with just over 2,5 year experience. Got the sweet deal for the kite a week ago from Switch specials. Just in time for recent crappy wind days.

First time in the air - 12knts, the kite was moving faster than my previously main 12m kite... Low bar pressure and general super smoothness... Feels familiar after seconds.

First time on the water - 11-14knts totally de-classed a similar weight guy on same size 14m kite (Cab SB). He tacked twice (tried), sinked, and went home. I kept doing fine, going upwind and boosting on gusts. Found it oddly satisflying :P

Second time on the water - again 11-15knts, I was the only twintip rider cruising around foil guys and boosting, a few other tried TT including 17m but all shame walking.

It's just amazing how much apparent wind Nitro creates... And with it's responsiveness and speed in it's just pleasure to move that kite and generate the power.

I couldn't be more happy with the performance. Built quality looks top notch too. It gets quite a lot of attention on the beach, leading straight to Switch website later on ;)

Still looking forward to fully test Nitro's boosting capabilites.

Awesome job Switch - keep it up!

Cheers (Posted on 29/03/16)
Great kite with great rangeReview by Brett
The nitro4 10m was the first switch kite i bought and I was originally aprehensive about buying online. However when I got the kite I was so happy with it I also bought a 7m Nitro4 within a month. Great boosting kite with great upwind and range. (Posted on 20/12/15)
Amazing kite with a lot of HANGTIME! 8m Nitro 4Review by Avi
Just bought this kite a few weeks ago. I did not really know what to expect when i bought this kite. After some sesions I was amazed and found out a few things:

+ Big wind range (16 to 38 knots) (170, 73kg)
+ LOTS OF HANGTIME! And a realy big boost. When you stear your kite up to 12 it's just like you took a really fast elevator wich takes you as high as possible. And that with an 8 meter kite. This 8m kite boosts higher with 18 knots then my 12m Slingshot RPM does with the same windspeed!
+ Easy upwind riding! Never had a kite that went upwind so easy!
+ lots of depower with normal windconditions almost 100%!! Even with 38 knots I was able to kite! This makes it also really easy to put on my boots (normaly this can be hard with my other kites, because then the kite wants to pull you over your board).
- One minus with a lot of wind, when you depower to much the kite almost does not turn at all, you have to pull the stearing line realy hard.. I guess it would be a litle bit to much to ask with 38 knots when your are depowering a lot ;)
- The only disapointment for me is the wakestyle ability from the Nitro4. It does not have a lot of slack and when i try to pop it feels like i'm just slowing down before takeoff, so it does not create a lot of pop. (Not sure if this is just because of the standart settings I used. Maybe it would help if I try other setting, I will do that next sesion!)

All in all an amazing kite which is awesome for extremely high jumping and old-school tricks (board offs, double/triple/quatro spins, extremely long darkslided). If you want a wakestylekite you should probably buy the Legacy.

Boost high, ride hard! (Posted on 29/11/15)

Great Kite!!!Review by Austin
Delivery was super fast and everything turned up to Australia with no hassles. I'm extremely happy with the Nitro4 9m, I've never jumped so high and the power is really strong. Compared to the kite I'm used to (2015 name brand), the hang time is far better and the kite is just all around easier to work with. I'm now selling my current 12m (2015 name brand) to order a 12m Nitro4. Very impressed. (Posted on 26/10/15)
Nitro V4 -12m.Review by Andre

(Posted on 14/10/15)
Nitro 14m2Review by SurfsUp
You can feel the quality at first sight, very firm materials.

Easy to pump and setup even the big kite (14m2).

Riding - very smooth kite. Super air! Wow. Such a great kite, nice pop, very easy to handle and very good kite for beginners as well. Easy to relaunch! (Posted on 11/10/15)
Nitro 3 12 mtsReview by santiago
I m an intermediate rider from Argentina. I weight 77 kg .I could test the Nitro 3 last saturday from a Friend. My big kite is a Naish Park 14m. I found the Nitro very fast and powerfull, with great low end. I tested it with 15 knots aprox. Good hang time and impressive upwind. I liked very much the build an materials quality. I liked the bar also, with moderate bar pressure.
Inmediatly I tryed the Nitro, flew a Flysurfer Boost 13m. In comparison the boost was very much slow, with even more hang time, less upwind hability and much light bar pressure. My feeling was that the 12 nitro has much power than the boost 13. Both, super easy riding kites. I prefer the Nitro.
My experience witn Park was good. Its a super fast kite for 14m, easy ride, but buid quality is bad. (Posted on 24/09/15)

Nitro 4 12M Review
Customer Service A+ easy to get parts and great service on the website
Build Quality A+ best I have seen
Wind Range A+ at 185 lbs I can start riding at 12mph and top out at just over 25mph
Sweet spot for me is 15-23mph
Flying characteristics: Fast through the window, medium bar pressure, constant power through the window, drives upwind like a champ.
I ride mostly in the ocean with a TT and sometime a strapless surfboard, mostly I ride waves and boost old school with a TT in the ocean. for me this kite is a perfect choice
Jumps a high and soft floaty landings. I demoed just about every major kite brands out there before bought this kite, from my perspective I feel a saved quite a bit of money and did not sacrifice any performance or quality. Very happy with my new Nitro 12
What I would like to see enhanced in the future is shorter bridles that won't catch the wing tips. Other than this its perfect

16M- great lightwind and all around kiteReview by Daniel
Been kiting on my 16M for about 8 months now. I've been out in all kinds of wind. The kite handles gusts well, pull is great, jumps are lofty, goes upwind nicely. Construction is solid. The pump is fantastic as it pumps in both directions... kite is full quickly! Bought the bag and have only used it twice because the kite is just too tough to get into the bag. Would be good for longer travel but to/from the beach and home I just roll the kite and fold it in half. (Posted on 27/08/15)
Super Upwind, Boost and HangtimeReview by j.kite
I got the Switch Nitro4 in 7m and 14m to replace my Hifi Comp and Torch which have grown old.
I am totally excited about the 7m Nitro. I fly it with the controller2 in the 45cm setting. It is always easy to control, you have a great barfeedback and it boosts you high and produces a great hangtime, which surprised me in such a small kite (I´m more on the heavy side).
Kiteloops with the 7m were controllable, but offered good pull. Fun!
I didn´t unhook with the 7m.

The built quality is great and I bet this kite will last for a long time.

The 14m has very similar characteristics as the 7m, but I couldn´t boost very high. Probably because of marginal conditions. It turns quick for a big kite and doens´t tire you, due to its low barpressure. Still, you get a good feedback, where the kite is.
Upwind is very good. Kiteloops hooked and unhooked have to be flown in a wide radius, if you want to get lots of power out of them.

With the 7m, I instantly felt comfortable and hab one of the best sessions in my life; I have to fly the 14m more often to better get used to it.

Also, the bar feels heavy on land, but on the kites it is one of the best bars, I ever handled.

Altogether I´m excited about the Nitros and the bar. They are definitely not my last orders at SwitchKites! (Posted on 27/08/15)
Switch Nitro 4 in 9 und 12qmReview by Andre
(Posted on 19/08/15)

Water Truck Review by windyjump
First of all. The materials is exceptional good as you touch wing tip panel to feel that seems one and half thicker than other brand. Brilliant craftsmen ship when detail check every part on kite which cannot find any defect

Fly on sky feeling : Good pop / lift up power for free style, great boost power where you place the kite on sweet spot. Super excellent low end which can be light wind machine. 14m kite size would have 17m pulling power.

P.S. If light weight rider or going practice on new freestyle tricks I would pick Element to instead of. (Posted on 15/08/15)
Amazing kiteReview by Nicollas
I have been kiteboarding with Nitro4 for 2 weeks and I had a hudge improvement of my skills. The kite answers fast and with precision, nice hang time so you can spot your landing and prepare your self for it, nice relaunch, no headaches, nice power and the price is the best cost benefits in the market! Amazing kite, no regrets buying it, I became a fan! (Posted on 11/08/15)
10m Nitro V4. Great all around kite for the intermediate to advanced riderReview by Jason Wood
I have a few months and probably close to 50 sessions on the 10m in both waves and flat water.

Construction: Love the new canopy fabric. It feels thicker and more durable. Love the creature comforts on the kite as well as no pulleys. The only thing I don't like is that the bridle is quite long but I know that they had to make it longer to eliminate the pulleys

Flight Characteristics: I had to add a knot on the rear bridle to shorten the back lines to trim it correctly. Once I got the kite in the air I noticed that it is very stable. it doesn't lurch and yank you like the Nitro 2 would do when it is gusty.

Performance on flat water: You will fell that the kite has medium to heavy bar pressure but once you get used to that you get a lot of feedback from the kite. Turning speed is not super fast but it will turn relatively fast if you yank on the bar. Jumping is where this kite really shines. It takes a couple of sessions to figure it out but this kite BOOSTS!!!! I've ridden other kites that boost well but the difference is how comfortable this kite makes you when 40 feet up. That stability and predictability also makes you more comfortable trying new tricks.

Performance in waves: This kite is not designed or marketed for waves. With that said, it's not a bad wave kite at all. I ride with a strapless surfboard and I would say this kite has really helped me improve my skills on the wave. It drifts quite well and will go down the line with you without too much flying. The only drawback is the long bridle so if you outrun the kite you may wrap the bridle.

Summary: I love this kite!!!! It is the best kite I have ever ridden and I've demoed a lot of kites. I felt at home immediately on this kite and I'm still learning how to get more out of it. I would definitely recommend this kite to any kiter that has some experience and wants to move up to a high performance kite. (Posted on 7/08/15)
Awesome performance kiteReview by Grigoriy
I tired of dragging me downwind on my previous kite Nobile t5. so i decide to change it for Nitro4

I was amazed by flight characteristics of Nitro:
-Awesome upwind ability and good speed make it very comfortable for freeride.
- Huge hangtime and boost. First time when I jumped on it, i thought I wouldn’t land and will proceed flying like a bird:D
- Nice slack in lines. It doesn’t drag you all the time so it's easy for hooking again after the wakestyle tricks. Pop is nice, not really aggressive.
- Great high-end, I can ride 12m Nitro in 12-14 m/s with no problems and go really big air.

Great kite, but it's not for beginner, because it requires skill to gain speed on start.

North EVO 10 to Switch Nitro 10.Review by Menno
What a wonderful kite. He is faster and jumps higher. Also looping can be called really good! (Posted on 4/08/15)
kite with great hang time and reasonable priceReview by SH
Got the 16m nitro 4 with controller 2 about 9 months ago and have been on it numerous times. The kite was to replace my old cabrinha SB 16m. I usually rides a customized 232x43 TT and weighs in at 97 kg, have been kiting for 5 years.

Kite came in a nice package. Flew it the first opportunity that i have and I am bought in with the fast turning, long hang time. The build quality and deep aspect design got a lot of people interested at my spot as basically I am the only local trying it for the first time.

Downside for the kite is the relaunch, which need some work, especially in light wind. And the bridle line is long that it got caught at the wind tip a few times.

Overall a great purchase! Great job for a well designed kite at a reasonable price (Posted on 28/07/15)
Nitro v4 10m (86 kg rider) twintipReview by Clément

Nitro4 16M vs Ozone Zephyr Review by Nicholas
First stuff about me.
I'm a 90kg rider, kitefurfing for 4 years now and 3N IKO certified.
I used to ride a 2014 Ozone Zephyr with a 142cm Naish Motion or a 149 Slingshot LW Glide twin tips.
I will keep it short and not mentioned the same other comments already mentionned for which I mostly agrree with.

Here are my findings between the 2 kites:

Plus:
- Goes upwind better
- Turns faster
- Better construction
- Jumps are easier and higher

Same:
- Pulling power
- Wind top range (tested up to 21 Knots)

Minus:
- Relaunch (it is a lot harder to relaunch especially in low wind and your feet are not touching the bottom)
- Little loss in the low range

The Nitro4 16M is not a Light wind kite but I did not want one also, this kite is more fun. The Zephyr might go in less wind, 1 or 2 knots only but it does relaunch more easily. If you want a LW kite, then buy a dedicated LW kite like the Helium. (Posted on 14/07/15)
impressedReview by Ebru
I have tried this kite at my local beach.
I was impressed by the direct bar feel, i had not experienced to such a point before.
The kite is a breeze, it is very resilient to the strong gusts we have around here, and turns impressively fast.
It is well built and gives an impression of quality in the choice of materials and craftmanship.

Nitro 4 12 meter kiteReview by Paul
I recently made my first switch purchase with the brand new Nitro 4 12 meter. After reading the reviews and looking at the price compared to other brands I had to give it a try. I am very happy with the kite. Build quality is excellent, I really like the looks of the kite, and most importantly it flies as good or better than any kite I have flown. I would strongly recommend these kites to someone looking for a good quality product for a good price. (Posted on 25/06/15)
Nitro 4 12mReview by John
I decided to replace my quiver of Best Kahoona's with Switch Nitro's and, while the Nitro is a very different sort of kite from the Kahoona, I'm enjoying the transition. Some things I like about the kite are as follows:
- The top end is great. On the first day I used the kite, I was so keen to try it out that I stayed out when the winds started getting a bit stronger. At the end of my session, I was on my 12m and everyone else was on 7-9m kites. The Nitro got a bit sluggish in the turns, but still didn't feel out of control or overpowered, which was great considering the wind was 25-30 knots.
- The kite boosts well, as everyone says. I'm still working on my technique, coming from the Kahoona, but I think this kite will jump very high once I've adapted my timing. Coming down from the jumps, it has lots of float, which was exactly what I was looking for - a real knee-saver!
- The kite turns fast and generates good immediate boost for slow back rolls and front rolls.

The only negative I've found so far is that the kite doesn't relaunch 'automatically' like the Kahoona did, but this is to be expected given the type of kite it is. It seems most people don't have any issues relaunching the kite, so I'm assuming I just need to work on my technique (I've only had two sessions with the kite so far and haven't been making a deliberate effort to crash it). yes!! nitro v4 16mReview by john
I've got 2013 cabrinha switchblades 8 10 and 12m . kiting 18 months. addicted....wanted a bigger kite for sketchy auckland conditions, i love this kite. absorbs gusts well, fine in 20 knots if depowered...stable but really responsive for big kite, great boosts, while not a light wind kite it gets you going when others are struggling. i love it and will be retiring my regularly repaired switchblades for nitros... also uses the cab bar and lines without and adaptions needed. 100% happy. A step up from V3Review by Dimitris.P
Had the Nitro V3 10m, upgrade to the new version and V4 Nitro immediately felt a lot more stable in the air, better unhooked ability. The rest boost, smooth power, power through the turn, turning axis, glide, everything i liked in the previous version still there :) And the new double ripstop fabric is just amazing. I couldn't ask for more ! (Posted on 7/06/15)
Nitro 10m - Fly Me HardReview by Evan
I have had my 14 Nitro for just over a year now and love the boost and hang-time, the depower at the bar allows you to ride in 20kts and still feel in control. I have found the 14 quite heavy and slow and I could not really generate a much power as with my previous kite, a Kahoona 13.5m on which I could generate much more power and fly in much lighter wind. When I heard that Switch had improved the turning speed I was quite excited and ordered a 10m to replace my 9m Best Taboo (which I love).
Being used to my 14 Nitro 3, I started flying the 10m in the same slow deliberate way but I could just not seem to get going. It takes a bit of understanding as to how this kite works but once you fly it around and make a few strong power strokes the acceleration is phenomenal, I understand now what a previous reviewer meant about the acceleration being too much for snow kiting. You can cruise along calmly and then power stroke the kite and you’re off and flying. The kite is very responsive to positive input and turns quickly, my Taboo is super responsive and the Nitro comes very close, I like the fly the kite around so it suits my style so for those who like more park and ride style like the Switchblades it is possibly not the right kite.
I was really impressed with the Nitro’s low end, I was out in 12-13 kts having a blast powering up the kite with a couple of power strokes and being able to generate tons of apparent wind which made it feel like it was blowing much harder than it was. Did not get to test the top end but my 14m has great top end so expect 10m’s will be great too. As with my 14m Boosting and Hang-time are epic , you almost have to fly yourself back down. My only gripe would be that the bar pressure could be a little lower. I am going to replace my 14m Nitro 3 with a 4 and probably get a 7m too. I don’t believe any of the big brands out there offer anything better in term of build quality or performance and if you through in price you are on to a winner. Good Job Switch…. Now time to improve the bar too.

Thank you Switch!Review by Jesse
If you are thinking of buying a Nitro it will not disappoint. I have been waiting to purchase one for about 3 months now and after receiving my kite promptly in the mail the other day I had my first ever session on it 15-17 Knots 98kg TT. First Impressions out of the bag were excellent. Everything about this kite is thought out and well made, I have had a good look over mine, I am amazed at the quality (so were the other guys on the beach).

The Nitros slimmer LE, struts and swept tips make my 12m2 fly similar to a 9m Switchblade. It is a rocket through the sky and pulls super smooth absorbing gusts (21-23 gusts) effortlessly. The kite turns really fast and sits still with no input. Despite Switches recommendation of an element 3 for learning, the Nitro is still an excellent kite for a beginner. It is a kite a beginner can easily handle and grow into and it wont ever get boring.

Pop and pull the bar and you will fly, this kite is the best booster I have ever tried. There is no doubt anyone would be impressed at its boost capabilities. I smashed mine hard a few times and had no issues with it. The relaunch is great and it pops right back up with little effort similar to any top brand freeride kite.

In conclusion, Switch have made an excellent kite at a great price and I just want to thank these guys for such a great bit of kit. Switch you have a loyal customer in me and definitely a few keen eyes now interested down at the beach. Your a sucker if your going to pay twice the price for a big brand kite that will almost fly as good as the Nitro V4, and boost no where near it. Cheers Switch (Posted on 9/05/15)
Fantastic boosting kiteReview by sanjose_kiter
Finally got decent wind range to really test out the Nitro 4.
Rider 155 lbs, riding TT on wind range 17 gusting to 25 mph.
Fantastic boosting kite, solid construction, very stable in gust, precise handling.

I bought the kite mainly for boosting / hang-time and boy did the nitro 4 ever delivered :-))
Jump height was personal best and hang-time in the order of 4 to 6 seconds easy.
Also kited on a friend 2012 Cabrihna switchblade on same day, same condition, and my jump height/hang-time on the nitro 4 were almost twice that of the switchblade (no bashing Cabrihna here because I still have a 9 meter switchblade which I used in higher wind)

Crashed the nitro 4 few times doing double back roll and water relaunch was a cinch.
Overall, I think my friends are pretty jealous of my nitro 4.

Wish list: lighter bar pressure, shorter briddle lines, location of inflation valve and better line slack. (Posted on 5/05/15)
Nitro4 testé en 8, 9 & 10m²Review by Florian

(Posted on 1/05/15)
Nitro 4 12 meter reviewReview by sanjose_kiter
Rider : 155 lbs with TT on 12 meter nitro 4 on 15 to 25 mph wind
Only 2 sessions on the nitro 4 so far but here 're my impressions:
- boost and hang time is phenomenon, a bit better than my previous 12 meter Ozone Catalyst
- it took a little time to dial in but once i got dialed in, it was like taking the elevator straight up and my hang time is so long that i started spinning or losing balance. Basically took a while to get a hang of the boost and hang-time but once i got used to , vertical height and hang time was more than any of my previous kites.

This is the exact reason why I bought the Nitro 4 in the first place.

Things that I believe could be improved upon:
- location of inflation valve could be move so that it won't rub against canopy when i fold the kite
- long briddle lines. One low wind session, after one mediocre jump, lines became too slack and kite started to fell from the sky, then a gust hit and the kite power up. However, the wing tip line (the rear line) somehow had crossed over inside the front line (in between the 2 front lines) which resulted in the rear line wrapped around the kite which was un-recoverable. Fortunately i was closed to the shore, so wasn't too bad of an ordeal. But this was something that kiters need to be aware off.
- turn speed is slower and bar pressure is higher than that of my 2013 ozone catalyst (also 12m)

Over all, besides the incident with the rear line wrapping around the kite, was pretty happy with the Nitro 4 performance so far. Just be aware with jumping while low wind prevails (Posted on 27/04/15)
Different feel but terribly exciting !Review by Nicolas
I am intermediate level and happened to test the Nitro in size 8 in 2 environments:
- 30 gusty kts snowkiting in fresh pow.
- 22/28 kts in the sea

On the snow :
- you need something else, mountain winds can be tricky, twisting, gusty .. I didn't feel at ease with accelerations.

On the water is a different story:
- The kite definitely has a learning curve. It is not an all purpose kite.
I come from all terrain delta shape (Best Kahoona) or even Best Waroo.
Conversely the nitro won't be present in every conditions, it demands a precise piloting.
But the reward is there once you understood how this kite flies. There is an interesting continuous acceleration when it picks up :) Big boosts on the flat, great lift (95kg easily lifted in 25kts 8M kite). What impressed me most is the turning ability : fast, precise even up there.
I'm completing the quiver with Nitro4 12 and likely Helium 18. (Posted on 24/04/15)
Awesome kite, boost machineReview by nathaniel
Wow really impressed with the nitro 4 7 and 9m. Super stable, even in gusty conditions. I love that they have kept the power like the nitro v2's I had. The boost on the nitro is amazing, took me a while to dial in the timing, but when you do the hangtime and float is amazing, better than any other brand ive tried. The power is very smooth on the bar and turning is direct and you can always feel where the kite is. The bar pressure is a bit heavier than what im used but not so bad that it was uncomfortable. Kite-loops are made a little harder by the bar pressure but the loops are smooth and the kite comes up to catch you very well. Depower is much improved from the v2, when letting the bar out I didn't feel like it took of like the v2 did even at the top end on the 7m.
The build quality of the kite is just amazing, far better than some of the other brands I have seen, very impressed. I went for the orange and so glad I did, looks great in the sky.
All in all great kite for the money, very happy. (Posted on 2/04/15)

Nitro 4 10mReview by Renato
At the end of last season I bought the Nitro 4. First I was sceptic.
The kite feels more heavy than the kites I was riding. Ones in the air it is very predictable and smooth. It turns really quickly but is easy to control. The first jump, without any hesitation big air and lots of hangtime. Than the build of the kite. This really is a bombproof kite. They look great as well. The kites I already own eventually will make place for more switch. (Posted on 24/03/15)
I LIKE Nitro 12Review by Aubrey
Been looking for a replacement for my Goto kite a Best Nemesis 10m, it just got old and busted a gut. Talked with Switch help in NZ the guy had a Dutch accent, at the time I was thinking Element. He suggested the Nitro as a good option. It was supposed to have similar characteristics as the Nemi, good turning speed, wind range, good boosts and more.

I got a Nitro 12 thinking this would give me more time on the water. Took it out for a test, couple of days before cyclone Pam was due, the wind was rubbish gusty and light. I’m glad I took his advice because during that time I got enough feel for the kite and I thought I Like. It has a steady pull and good turning speed. Can’t wait to test the boost capabilities.

I do love the Maori graphics tucked on its canopy this adds to my feelings of peace when I’m out on the water.

Purchased a Nitro4 12m with a Controller 2 bar. Kiting 5 years Bay of Islands NZ and loving it

The best upwind kite Review by Andrew
I have owned the nitro 4 for a few weeks now and I must say, it matches the major brand kites in all departments However no kite can match the nitro 4's upwind. The kite also has one of the best hang time. (Posted on 16/03/15)
Nitro 4, 16m and 12mReview by Andrew
I am the proud owner of both the 16m and 12m nitro 4's. I have to say, the more time I spend with either of these kites, the more I like them, I wouldn't swap the Nitro 4 for anything, I'm even thinking about buying the 9m as well, when I can afford to. (Posted on 9/03/15)
16m Nitro 4Review by Andrew
Took my 16m nitro 4 out again yesterday, this time i 8-10 knot winds. There were only 2 of us out there, me with my Nitro 16 and another guy with an Ozone zephyr, in case you don't know, the Zephyr is supposedly meant to be the best light wind kite on the market, SUPPOSEDLY. My Nitro 16 was handling the light winds effortlessly, going upwind, Jumping, I was even able to do 2-3 meter boosts with excellent hang time. The other on the Zephyr was struggling and gave up after only about half an hour. (Posted on 6/03/15)
AwesomeReview by Niklas
I bought a nitro 3. And First time i used it, I just love it. Hangtime is real nice. real good response. Maybe a little bit low bar pressure. But otherwise its awesome. Im thinking of replacing my other switchkites to the nitro instead now. And i can really recomend this kite for other people. (Posted on 4/03/15)
performed well in 8 knotsReview by Andrew
I have had my 16m nitro 4 for almost a week now and so far it has passed all the tests by a milestone. Took it out last week in winds 23-25 knots and it was never even slightly overpowered. Yesterday I took it out for the first time in light conditions, the wind would have been 8-10 knots. The kite performed so well in those conditions, I didn't even have to power stroke the kite to keep power. King of the Air's KiteReview by Sebastien
Test : Caribbean condition, sun, salt, hot water, 30C, rider 75kg, expert.

Kites : 16-12-10m²

Like switch say, this kite is a fucking machine to go big. Go high and stay high, unhook power with perfect slack.. in the same session... with the same kite !!!

Really the kite is was waiting since a lot of time, have a perfect kite for every style. Pressure point is close to the chicken loop, don't need to trim the kite to have a perfect unhook stability, or to have a perfect control in the air.

I feel like.. can do some "Toby" oldschool tricks ... then Ok go for a BJ3 :) !

Construction is very massive, canopy is the same compare to Element3 with a double ripstop material for durability, briddle system is totally new compare to Nitro 3 witch allow new performance.

16m has got a good power in light wind and keep the power house for big air and slack line. 16 and 12 are also perfect for slide, barefoot, jesus. I start kiteloop with 10m², fast, small loop circle but full of power, go back at twelve quickly for the second downloop.

This kite is for me the King of the Air"s machine !

Good wind rangeReview by Andrew
I tried my new16m nitro 4 today. I was hesitant to put it up as the wind was about 25 gusting up to 27, I thought I would definitely be way overpowered. However, to my surprise, it handled the conditions extremely well and I was never at any stage overpowered. Surprisingly, the kite also had quick turning speed for such a large kite and plenty of de power as well. I can't wait for the wind to drop off a bit as Im anxious to see how it performs in the light winds. (Posted on 26/02/15)
non il migliore, ma buono, convince!Review by Leites

Nitro 4, 16mReview by Andre
Firstly, I just want to say that, to date, I have purchased already 2 kites from SWITCH and I just want to congratulate them on their service and product.

Their Service:
Before moving over to switch, I was a bit hesitant on buying kitesurfing gear from overseas: What if the wrong item is sent, what if items are missing, what if the item gets damaged in shipping. ecc... But I must say the service was excellent on both occasions. 5 stars on the packing, 5 stars on the shipping time, the first one I paid the extra and went with the speed post option, the item arrived within 3 days after payment, the second kite I used the free shipping snail mail option, and even that arrived very quickly, 8 days after payment date.

Their Products:
I am now the proud owner of both 12 and 16m Nitro 4's. I have had the 12m for 2 weeks now, amazing upwind, amazing air, amazing hang time. Both kites go really well in light winds and hold their way in strong winds. I weigh 75kg on a twin tip and Ive had the 12m out in winds ranging from 10 knots right up to 28 knots. I took the 16m out this morning for the first time, the wind was about 8 knots, not only was I riding along comfortably but, to my surprise, the kite got me 2-3 meters in the air.

After using switch kites I will never go back to other brands (Posted on 23/02/15)
Loving My Nitro 4 12mReview by Andre
I have had my 12m Nitro 4 for 2 weeks and totally become addicted to it so much that I have also just ordered the 16m one as well. The Kite is flawless and its strongest points are its upwind, hang time, massive air and light wind ability. The big air come even be sometimes quite scary. I have been riding in as low as 10 knot winds with the 12m so I can't imagine what the 16m will be like (Posted on 20/02/15)
Nice kiteReview by Brieuc
Intermediate rider - 70kg - board 136x42 - 12m

Here are my overall impressions :

- The wind range is huge :

At 10 knots I have difficulties to go upwind. At 12 knots I can go upwind. At 18-20 knots I can jump really high. At 25 knots I can fly. I had sessions on 20m lines with gusts between 25 kts and 30 kts and I could hold my kite thanks to the huge Controller2 depower and the Nitro performance. That's why the Nitro 12m will be my only kite this summer!
So you can experience strong winds with the 12m but you need some exprerience and you better shorten your lines.
The low wind performance is also impressive. Of course when the wind is light you should ride on 23m lines : it makes a huge difference.

- The settings on the kite really work.

Whether you like strong bar pressure or light bar pressure you can set the kite as you like.

- The kite is solid. The quality is comparable to North Kiteboarding. Price is 40% lower.
Switch wins!

Great freeride kite, good quality and outstanding jumping ablities. Btw I'd like to see a Nitro rider during the Red Bull King Of The Air... He's blow away the other riders ! (Posted on 19/02/15)
session 12mReview by yaak
had the opportunity to demo the 12m for 2 hours session. Conditions where 14-21 knots.
The kite is just AMAZING. Really nice boosting and hang time. Even though the wind was unstable and gusty (some of them over 30), the kite knew to handle it pretty well, never felt out of control. Unhooking was ok, not the best but enough if your not looking for a pure c kite.
For summery really liked the kite, now only need to decide wheater its gone be 12m or 14m :-) (Posted on 12/02/15)
Nitro 4 12mReview by Mohannad
I got my new Nitro 4 a few weeks ago. I tried it a couple of times on snow and I really like it. The kite is very stable and powerful. I also like its simple bridle (no pulleys or sliders). The construction quality is excellent as well. I would recommend the kite to any freerider. Just watch out for the customs and exchange rate if you are from Canada. (Posted on 2/02/15)
16m - Nice, strong, fast, fly.Review by Antoine
Disclaimer : Not from Switchkites, reviewing to get points, to get other kites because THEY ARE GOOD.

Just got my 16m 3 weeks ago.

Construction is good, comparable to the brands out there and pumping valve is big and useful.

Kite is fast, turns fast for a 16m. I do downloop transitions and kiteloops without any problem.
Unhooked raileys are easy and the kite as a very good general behaviour with very good stability.

I'm 85 kgs, and use it from 10 to 18-knots, with surf or wakeboots.

I'd recommend the kite, from Singapore I got it from HongKong in just 4 days.
Thanks guys ! (Posted on 26/01/15)
Nitro 4 a Free ride kite that's right on the moneyReview by Matt
I've waited some time before giving my recommendation to the Nitro 4.
I'm 85kg, been kiting for just over 2 years and I just love to boost as high as I can. I've had a quiver of North Evos and loved their build quality and performance .

So after doing as much on-line research as you can,it wasn't until I inspected the Element 3 in the flesh and was super impressed with the build quality that I was convinced to make the change.

So that just left the performance...
Well as already stated by many the Nitro 4 has amazing boost ability, with so so much hang time. It gives you so much time to re-adjust if you mis hit a kicker or just set up for butter soft landings. So as far as I'm concerned this hits the spot as far as Freeride goes.

I live in south west Victoria,Australia and what this means is gusty winds. So how do they handle gust? Well they just eat them up....

What about wind range? I have a 7,9,12 quiver...(my 7 hasnt had a run yet)... My 12 has me going from 13-14 knot through to 25-6 knots and my 9 17-high 30s.. High 30s was doable on the 9 but not fun..hence the purchase of the 7m

If your holding back like I was because of build quality...don't .
If your a Free rider and questioning the performance ....don't

This Kite just continues to put a smile on my face....massive boosts, super long hang time and lets not forget the price...

Get massive on a Nitro4

Matt

Nitro 4 12m great wind rangeReview by Colin
I recently took my 12m Nitro 4 out in 25 knots gusting to 30+ as my 8m Nitro 3 was temporarily out of action. I was impressed with how well it behaved, there were 3 other 9m kites flying and they were having more trouble than me in the big gusts..

Best hang time I have ever experiencedReview by Andre
Was able to try the nitro 4 the other day as one of the local guys where I kite just bought one. I asked him if I could try it and he let me. I was amazed as the wind wasn't more than about 12 knots yet I was able to jump 2-3 meters with long hang time which is not possible with most kites in 20 knot winds (Posted on 27/12/14)
Nitro 4 9m Review by Valentin

(Posted on 10/12/14)
Review after Demo of 7m and 10m Nitro 4Review by Mark
88Kg riding a MJ Comp 140cm 23m lines on standard Bar. Tested 7m and 10m Nitro 4
I had read the reviews of people saying never jumped so high hang time unreal and thought yeah just exaggerating a bit, as what happens with guys getting new gear. So thought give them a go and see what the hype was about.
After my demo came off the water totally stoked. First words to Ralph this was this best kite i had ever used!!
Demo
Wind was about 25kts and Ralph had the 7m on the beach he said go give it a try, there is a 10m if you feel underpowered. Went out thinking this is not going to be enough Bar felt light. Got to the water getting bindings on kite behaved well you can just drop it to side of window and it will happily wait on water till your ready to go.
First Dive of the kite was amazed how fast kite was and the smooth power that came on was easily powered I was there were kites up from 8m to 13m could have happily stayed out on this in these conditions.
The turn speed is quick but not twitchy and it boosts super well, had some gusts come through and boosted as big as i have ever had and conditions were not perfect. Had a play round with some loops underloops and transitions, easy to pick where kite is in the sky and gain confidence with it very quickly. Imagine this kite would have some amazing top end. Did a few tricks unhooked kite was well behaved good amount of pop, felt well suited to been ridden with speed.
So 7m this kite is a super fun little kite for those nuke days and would happily add one to my quiver if needed a smaller kite.
Came in and grabbed a 10m, went straight back out, the real reason i wanted to try it was to test the top end as we get gusty days here. Don’t think i would have a problem holding this kite in 30kts, performance was Much the same as 7m but with a lot more hang time, easy to boost high, real high was amazed. My regular kite is Slingshot RPM 10m the Nitro kills it hands down for freeride. Can see why this is a favourite size for lot of guys, the range on this kite would make it a great 1 kite quiver the .
So in Conclusion Great kite would highly recommend and no have no affiliation to switch. Think it is cool what they are doing, solid gear at a good price. I have ordered two Nitro 4s a 12m and a 9m, for our conditions should make a great combo.

BLOWN AWAY !!!!Review by Paul
I have been riding for over a year now and I have had somewhat of a learning curb because of my weight. I was 280 and now I am 235 lbs. I had a used Nitro 3 that I earned to ride on and now I own a Element 3, 15 and 13 meter size and I love these kite's fast turning and lot's of hang time but my new 10 meter Nitro 4 is even faster and boost higher. The wind was only 28 to 32 mph and I was flying. Love these kite's :)

Essai Nitro V4 12 m prêtée par AlbanReview by Julien
(Posted on 18/11/14)
Nitro v4 12m2Review by Alban

Game changerReview by Simon
Been kiting for 6 years, intermediate rider from Australia. I pay for my own gear.
I was very sceptical when i saw my friend unrolling a new Nitro4 12m on the beach. A quick look over the build quality and I was impressed as it was just as good if not better as any of the other brands around. He is around 120kg and it was only blowing around 20kn. as he should have been on a 14m for these conditions. He did a run out, very big boost straight off the bat and came in with the biggest grin on his face saying "did you see that, wasn't even trying".
After 10 mins he said you have to have a go, so it was my turn.
first thing I noticed was the light bar pressure but fast and direct steering. very nice so far.
I had a run out and tried a small jump, which ended up being about the average height of a normal jump on my kites. Then I thought might as well give it some and see what happens. WOW, was one on the biggest jumps have ever done. It didn't take time to dial in or require any kind of timing, it just wants to fly. The float was ridiculous and the landing was butter smooth. What is this kite capable of once we were use to it.
I'm still grinning from the session yesterday, so I'm in the process of selling my quiver to buy a set of these.

Best kite hands down Review by Lenny
Disclaimer - I am in no way affiliated to switch kites Just love their products.

Rider profile - 80kg twin tip rider, been kiting for two years. Would say I am an intermediate rider. Current quiver: element v1 7m and Element v2 9m

Previously ridden kites: ozone instinct 12 2009, bandit dos 8m, carbrinha switch blade 2010 11m , north dice 2014 9m

NITRO v4 REVIEW

I've been riding my 9m element solid for the last year and my review will be mainly based on the comparison between the two.

Construction - bomb proof as always

Lift/ hang time - amazing lift and hang time can jump almost twice as high as I could on my element and the float is awsome and predictable, great for massive back and front rolls.

Pop/slack - I'm only doing unhooked raleys and back rolls but the pop and line slack is great and has improved my unhooked tricks considerable.

I felt the kite handle exceptionally well and even tho the website says the element is the better kite to learn on I would say otherwise and recommend the kite to any newbie kiter.

I was a tight ass and didn't splash out on the carry bag so the only recommendation I can make to switch is if they could make the duffle bag twice the size because it's a mission to store the kite after a hard session.

If I could afford to I would sell my elements and buy a nitro quiver.. (Posted on 8/11/14)

12m au top! facile et performanteReview by Guillaume
Nitro 12,

Great kite, but it's not for beginner, because it requires skill to gain speed on start.

kite with great hang time and reasonable priceReview by SH

Plus it's signed by Bill Hansen!
I'll be getting one soon for my birthday! (Posted on 4/07/15)
