Stability and Slack

For true free/wakestyle performance, a kite must be absolutely stable and predictable while providing maximal slack. The Legacy2 5-strut design and balanced outline provide maximum stability. The blended draft forward profile and wide wingtips allow complete control in any position. The combination of balance and stability provide maximum slack allowing the rider time to complete complex maneuvers even when the take-off or conditions are less than optimal.

Kiteboarding Legacy 2 Modern Freestyle Wakestyle Kite - Perfectly Balanced Aspect-Ratio

De-Power, Range and Speed

The Legacy2 provides a unique level of de-power and range uncommon in true ‘C’ kites which traditionally have been known for brute force power and difficult overpowered handling. A careful positioning of the front wingtip tow points and finely-tuned spanwise angle of attack combine for unprecedented range and de-power. Reduced drag in the wingtips increases the response to bar input and accelerates turning.

Kiteboarding Legacy 2 Modern Freestyle Wakestyle Kite - Optimised Three-Strut Design

Versatility

A variety of options for both front and rear tow point positions along with either 5th Line ‘V’ or 6-Line bar set-up allows the rider to configure the Legacy2 to fit their choice of riding style whether top-level pro or freerider.

Wingtips

Wingtips feature a shallow drafted high speed profile for reduced drag in turns and improved upwind efficiency. The wingtip provides instant de-power while increasing efficiency and power.

Kiteboarding Freestyle C kite Legacy 2 - Stable High Performance Central Profile

Stable High Performance Central Profile

The deep canopy profile supported structurally by constant curve struts features the thickest point quite far forward. Combined with a thin leading edge tube this creates a high performance, powerful and ultra-stable wing.

Kiteboarding Freestyle C kite Legacy 2 - Constant curve leading edge

Constant curve leading edge

The canopy shape is supported by a defined constant curve Leading Edge tube design without any flat sections or nodal corners. This allows us to create a rigid structure with reduced tube diameters for a more efficient lower drag shape and improved performance.

Kiteboarding Freestyle C kite Legacy 2 - Trailing Edge Flow Control

Trailing Edge Flow Control

Lightweight, 4 layered internally glued Monofilm stiffeners are strategically placed along the trailing edge to increase efficiency by minimizing coning and eliminating flapping.

Kiteboarding Freestyle C kite Legacy 2 - Canopy Material

Canopy Material

Next to the actual kite design, the canopy fabric plays a very important role in your kite’s performance. Fabrics, with different stretch characteristics, will have an important effect on bar pressure, turning speed and the overall crisp feeling of your kite. A quick and lively kite can become dull and slow with heavy bar pressure when made with a different material. SwitchKites is constantly testing different materials in our test laboratory and in real life applications. After 16 months of testing, for our Element4, we have chosen a new 56 gr/m2 double rip stop fabric which has a 37% higher puncture tensile strength in the critical warp direction, with minimal weight increase. Being truly an all-terrain kite, we felt this feature was important for our customers who will use the Element4 in all possible demanding conditions.

Kiteboarding Freestyle C kite Legacy 2 - Trailing Edge Material

Trailing Edge Material

Modern kite fabrics are incredibly strong and durable considering their light weight. However, the two main enemies are UV and flapping. Unfortunately, a brand new kite sitting on the beach in high winds can be destroyed within a few hours as the rigorous fabric movement during flapping causes the coating of the cloth to break down prematurely permanently weakening it. Unfortunately there are instances where flapping cannot be avoided. We therefore use Chang Ho TT887, a 78 gr/m2 double rip-stop fabric which has a 173% higher tensile strength and excellent wind-flapping resilience in the trailing edge sections. As a result, we have substantially prolonged the life expectancy of this critical kite section.

Kiteboarding Freestyle C kite Legacy 2 - Leading Edge and Strut Material

Leading Edge and Strut Material

We use Dimension-Polyant Dacron exclusively. Dimension-Polyant Dacron is the only sailcloth manufacturer with its own ultra- modern sailcloth-weaving mill and a unique finishing plant where the fabrics pass through a 14-stage program. Weaving, finishing and laminating – all in one location, made in Germany. It’s the most stable and durable structure that ensures the designed shape is retained for ultimate performance.

Kiteboarding Freestyle C kite Legacy 2 - Double Dacron Strut Joints and Valve Positions

Double Dacron Strut Joints and Valve Positions

All stitching locations on any struts are internally reinforced first with Dacron and then adhesive-backed Dacron Mark Cloth to ensure the stitching doesn’t compromise the material. Strut seams are double stitched with a larger thread. Strut attachments are reinforced with webbing and all valve positions have extra reinforcing to prevent blowouts under high pressures and crashes.

Kiteboarding Freestyle C kite Legacy 2 - Glued and Overlaid Seam Construction

Glued and Overlaid Seam Construction

We glue and double stitch the seams. One straight stitch folded over would be much faster and cheaper to produce, but it is simply not as strong.

Kiteboarding Freestyle C kite Legacy 2 - Framed Canopy

Framed Canopy

Fully glued canopy framing of Dacron and adhesive-backed Mark Cloth for extra strength along struts, leading edge, trailing edges and wingtips.

Kiteboarding Freestyle C kite Legacy 2 - Reinforced Strut/Canopy Attachment

Reinforced Strut/Canopy Attachment

We added an additional layer of Canopy material and a doubled angular reinforcement at the Leading Edge in all strut areas to create a solid foundation for our struts and reduce impact failure during high velocity crashes.

Kiteboarding Freestyle C kite Legacy 2 - Canopy Attachment

Canopy Attachment

Why are we not using one single row of three-step zigzag like all the others? Every added hole in the leading edge weakens the structure. If you need to add holes, they must be spaced out as far as possible. We use a more time consuming two rows of two-step zigzag to produce considerable added strength to the design.

Kiteboarding Freestyle C kite Legacy 2 - Bomb Proof Leading Edge Closure

Bomb Proof Leading Edge Closure

Double-reinforced with Dacron, the LE seam is fully glued, double-folded and double stitched with an exterior webbing cover for ultimate strength and durability. Extra heavy thread is used to protect against ruptures and blowouts.

I’ve been riding my 12m Legacy 2 for a couple of months now and it is my favorite kite and the best I’ve had the chance to use, demo or own.

I must admit there were some nerves taking the plunge with Switch for the first time as it can be hard to find a demo especially where I live everyone sticks to the brands... with the big price tags. So after watching the promo video for the 100th time I hit that order button.
Those nerves were replaced with an ear to ear grin after the first session.
The Legacy 2 is not made as the boosting kite in the range like the Nitro but get some wind behind you and you’ll be flying high. Looking down as everyone else looks up.
With only what felt like a few minor tweaks to my ride style, I can still throw the board off my feet old school style satisfying the Freerider in me.

That is not the point of this kite though. It is as advertised a progression machine. So here's a freestyle newbies take on living up to the Legacy.

The first thing I noticed is the slack. Oh so much slack, even if you don’t get it right there’s still slack. This has boosted my confidence to try much more, even sooner than I thought.
Attempts at my first handle passes on other kites used to feel like my arm and socket would part ways, but now with the Legacy I’m in control and my shoulders are thanking me.
This combined with the stability gives extra precious seconds to break down and think through new tricks.

Relaunch after all the fails? Well no need to learn anything new here its just the same as any 4 line kite. Pull a back line and as quick as the kite is down your back on the water.

The wind range and up wind ability is something which took me by surprise. I was prepared to give up some of this when moving over to the Legacy. I have gladly been proven wrong. Even in lighter conditions there's more up wind than other delta kites friends of mine use.
Again this is a must when getting into freestyle as you can push away from the beach and generate extra space to try or in my case fail at the new handle pass your attempting to learn.

If like me you're looking for your first C or freestyle kite then trust me you won’t be disappointed. You will just wish you had ordered one sooner.

Awesome job Switch… Truly Awesome. (Posted on 19/05/17)

The Legacy2 is an especial C-kite. It has all the good features of a C-kite, massive pop, maximum stability, the handlepasses are easy and not physical because the lines get slack when you do a trick unhook, the bar has a direct feeling... All the good things you love in a C-kite... I also want to highlight the stability and the pop. Even in the moment you are passing the bar, you can always feel where the kite is and for sure it will be in the same place you left it.

But there are two things about this C-kite which makes it totally diferent from the other C-kites. The first thing is the relaunching, which is exactly as fast an easy as a delta kite (unbelievable) and the other great thing is that you never get tired, the depowered that Legacy offers you is bigger than any other C-kite so you can ride confortable going upwind without spending the energy you will need for your next trick and the bar pressure is perfect while riding, hard enough to feel the kite whatever it is, and soft enought so as not to create overload in your forearms.

Conclusion: all the good things of a C-kite without the bad things of a C-kite... The Perfect Freestyle Kite! (Posted on 27/01/17)

I have a Legacy 2 8m and a Legacy 2 14m.
I've been riding them for the past 4 months and here is my review.
I'm not going to go into build quality and value for money because if you know Switch kites, you know it's top notch.
I now gonna get to the point and try and keep this short.
The Legacy is the very best FREESTYLE kite I have ever used!!
Easy to use, light bar pressure, good depower, awesome upwind are words I've never used to describe my Freestyle C kites until I got a Legacy.
The very best thing about the legacy is that it has impressive pop, line slack and direct control which are the cornerstones of a good freestyle kite.
The only thing I should mention that could possibly be a negative for some riders is that the 14m loops/turn a little slower than some other kites out there. I personally like a slower turn for freestyle, I even cut my bars down to slow things up even more, so for me this is a plus.
The 14m is my freestyle/wakestyle machine and the 8m is a power loop freestyle beast.

Marc Jacobs and the Switch crew have nailed it with an easy use kite that can throw down unhook freestyle madness all day long. Thanks for the big Smiles (Posted on 26/01/17)
