Lightwind days will never be the same again.

  • Maximum stability
  • Great low-end power with sheet and go delivery
  • Maximum depower and extended range
  • Low bar pressure and quick turning
  • Lightweight construction

Lightwind days will never be the same again.

The Helium gets you on the water when marginal conditions may otherwise make kiting unlikely. Blasting upwind with controllable power, extended range and low bar pressure make light air kiting effortless and exciting.

The new Helium is a moderately swept high aspect, high projected area wing specifically designed for light air performance. The planform and profiles are carefully sculpted to reduce drag and optimize lift at the low angles of attack encountered in light wind flight where the apparent wind exceeds the true wind. A fixed no-pulley 6-line bridge bridle provides even spanwise Leading Edge support while allowing quick pivotal turning and maximum de-power. Construction is strong yet light in a 3-strut configuration.

Is this kite right for you

If you live in an area where the winds don’t blow all the time and you can’t drop everything whenever windfinder is looking good. With the Helium anyone can now take advantage of those lightwind days..

great depower! does what it's supposed toReview by Rob
It takes some getting used to but ones you have got the hang of it you can do great things whith it.
At first I was having trouble staying upwind and gaing ground eventhough I had plenty of power. As it turned out I was always measuring my angle to the wind by the angle of my lines. If you get a kite with more drag, the lines stay back and you automaticly steer more downwind. So keep an eye out for that.
Yes of course it is slow and you have to get used to that. The turning is surprisingly fast and transition jumps are easily possible. Furthermore the kite is great for backroles and such, and i love it for unhooked raily's. It isn't going to give you any slack but it's really forgiving and because it doesn't give slack, you have some leverage in the air.
And then the depower! I weigh 75 KG and i was kiting with a woman who weighed about 5-10 KG less. She had en 10sqm which was more high end than the helium. She didn't have to move the kite to gain some ground and maintain pretty good speed. The wind was pretty gusty and I was still unhooking with an 18 spm!!!!!
I don't have another light wind kite to compare it to but I am defenetly nog dissapointed.

Cheers! (Posted on 23/09/16)
Super HighendReview by Robert
Hi,

(Posted on 8/06/16)
Fantastic light wind kiteReview by Tom
This kite is incredible, it can fly in the air from as little as 9 knot wind. It just stays up there and will not fall out of the sky.

I can get going in about 10 knots, probably even lower if I had an even bigger board. On many occasions I've been the only person out kiting when everyone else was waiting for more wind. It's a session saver.

It has a huge wind range up to 20 knots where I start to pull the de-power. Although I would jump to my Element kites once it gets that windy,

It does not pull like a truck. Turns are slow but quick for such a big kite. I can do jumps with it on the twin-tip, big hang time !

Blot out the sky with this monsterReview by Brett
I can get out in minimal winds (<10kt) with this and my shinnster board and can easily ride it till the wind builds and it's time for me to switch to my Nitro4 10m. The size of the kite in the sky is a bit intimidating but it handles well for it's size. The kite is built lighter than the Element or Nitro kites so a bit more care is needed for self landing and launching but because of the light weight it floats in almost no wind! Great kite to have to maximize the time on the water instead of waiting for it to come. (Posted on 20/12/15)
Session saver for sure!Review by Chad
I always have this kite packed in my car. I'm riding from 8-18mph with this kite. A must have in your quiver.

MY NEW HELIUM.Review by william
Just like all of the other positive reviews I got to use my HELIUM. blue and tan LOVE IT.
Could have should have got it sooner than just siting on the beach waiting for some wind..
For a big kite, it does not feel heavy or slow, easy depower then full power on the fly.
8 to16 knts.
Only complaint is the shipping bag it came in. I just have to roll it up better, or get a caddy.
Thanks SWITCH.. WILLIAM

Maniable et toleranteReview by Loutox

(Posted on 12/10/15)
Essai a L'almanarre 9 knts ouestReview by Julien

All in all, very happy with the kite & bar. Review by angus
ider: 74kg, int/adv.
Style: Freeriding, Surf.
Weather: 10-12kn
Build Quality: 9/10
Satisfaction: 9/10
Disclosure: Nil

My Comments:

Have used the kite since new about 5 times now in light conditions btwn 10-12 kn with a 6'3" directional. Previous kite was a Zepher17 2010 so I use that for comparison.

Impression:

Initial
- Fast simple delivery from warehouse in HK.
- I live in Indonesia so the fact that the kite did not come with an adapter for the unusually large inlet valve was tedious. Odd that the optional bag does include one. One pumps up the kite, not the bag yes?!
- bar felt heavy (weight of it) compared with the Zeph bar, probably due to the heavier lines which has obvious upside.

Performance
Set up - faster to pump/deflate up compared to Zeph since only 3 struts vs 5
Drift - Zeph seems slightly better although the Helium just takes a bit of getting used to & then is fine.
Power - similar.
Upwind - similar.
Turning - significantly faster than the Zeph. Trim is set accordingly to the lightest setting.
Bar pressure - less than the Zeph. Trim is set accordingly.

Other
Color - Blue/Beige. Great colors, pretty looking kite without the common visual pollution of some others. The beige is a great idea as it does not show up the dirt or murk from not so clear waters.
Quality/finish- excellent. only one thing, the air feed line to center strut is a bit long & kinks so needs to be straightened with fingers to encourage faster airflow. I think this is a quality control fault & easily fixed but it should not be as so.

All in all, very happy with the kite & bar. (Posted on 16/09/15)
Session SaverReview by Mike
The Helium performed exactly as per description
Talked my friend into buying this kite so I could demo it before I bought it.
I will be buying this kite its does exactly what its described to do.
Its not going to get you riding in 5mph but you will be riding in 10 and having a blast in 12MPH
Light on the bar, very easy to fly, stable kite, does not require lots of skill to fly.
Tested in 10-12MPH Side onshore wind in the ocean with small waves
Also tested 12-20MPH as conditions changed
Was able to stay upwind is all conditions for 10MPH to 20MPH
This is a must have kite for light wind days a true session saver.
Great kite to practice new tricks in light wind, great floaty jumps
I have tested Ocean Rodeo 17 Flite and prefer this kite

Finally got testedReview by Vanja
I recieved my helium 18m from switchkites couple weeks ago. After placing order it took only 6 days to get my kites..

Yesterday I got this thing tested and I'm impressed. My weight is about 100-105 kilos in 5/3 wetsuite all gear on. My level is advanced rider.

I had my wind meter yesterday on the beach with me. On second try I managed to get helium flying .Wind wasthen 3,5-4,0 m/s on 1,5m level. Wind statistics shows that actual wind was 6-7 m/s which I think is realistic to get me riding on 144/42 twintip with my weight.

My first impression was that this kite is reeeally slow after my 12m kite which was my biggest for 3 years. After some time I get used with this big thing. After all.. This is 6m bigger than mine 12m ss rally and helium isn't sopii slow after all.

Helium was easy to launch from very little beach (tree line is really closer). On water helium felt that is pulling like a tractor. After little depower adjustment or after some time I get used with this big pull. Kite was really easy to fly and go upwind. You just practically Park it and enjoy. On turns you need to use some heavier pull on bar handle and it turns in little time. I felt bar power was just perfect as I like it to be.

My friend took 1,5 hour trip here, because of forecasts for bigger winds.. He got 12m kite as his biggest kite too. I gave him Helium for 1/2 hour session. I think he is gonna by helium too in near future Helium is total session saver!

I have only few bad thing to saa about switch. Bar feels little bit heavy and depower is kind a for away to use it without dipping in the water and reach to it. Another thing ..Green / white colour is cool, but white is not gonna be so light for long ..

If you thinking to buy this kite without testing it .Just go for it! You won't be dissapointed . Price is unbeatable. (Posted on 27/07/15)
Helium 18 meter reviewReview by Alex
Had 4 sessions so far on the Helium. Here is the gists:
Rider: intermediate, 155 lbs or 70 kgs, riding 136x42 twin-tip

- Wind range: A+. I can get going in 10 mph wind, start jumping/backroll in 12-14 mph. Still feeling comfortable with gusts up to 20 - 22 mph but at 18 - 20 mph wind, I switched to my 12 meter Nitro.
- Quality: B-. I would give the kite an A if not for some light discolorization on the white fabric. Otherwise, constructions are still top notch.
- Bar pressure: A+ . I love the Helium progressive bar pressure. Very light initially but steadily increased with more power applied. I can ride the kite all day without feeling elbow pain.
- Response: A+ . Can't believe the kite is so responsive for such massive wing
- Speed/turning speed: B- . A bit slow moving kite from one wind window to the other. It is a really big kite after all
- Upwind: B . Kite flied a bit into the wind power zone, not so much to the edge like my Nitro V4 hence the Helium upwind capability is not as good as the Nitro V4, but still very decent.
- Pull / Power delivery: A+ . Massive power on tap but did not pull like a truck when the wind picked up. Love it.
- Boost / height: B . Jumps are not as high as my Nitro 4
- Hang-time : A . I would give the Helium an A+ if I hadn't tried my friend Ozone Chrono. Still I had the longest hang-time of all inflatable kites that I had ever tried.

Overall I love this kite and would buy smaller size ~ 15 , 14 meter if Switchkites ever decide to make one.

Wish list: a bit better upwind capability would be nice. Otherwise, don't change a thing. (Posted on 16/07/15)

(Posted on 7/07/15)

Review by Alex

GreatReview by Niklas
I have tryed some light wind kites now, but this one is the best i tryed so far. It has an amazing turning abitily and is really easy to use. And even in low wind you can perfome some jumps and have great hang time in the air. One anoying thing is the bag, it could have been just a little bigger. Just a little, so it dosnt feel like you are ruining the kite when you pack it. You need to roll the kite really good if it shall fit (okay) in the bag. But otherwise the kite is great! :) (Posted on 22/06/15)
helium in very light wind actionReview by kazenori
I received my Helium in approximately 9 days from the day I ordered. Very happy with the quick time to receive and shipping was free as it always is with standard service! I am very happy with the construction of the kite and the weight is very comparable to my Element V2 15m which surprised me. I have only had the opportunity to fly the Helium in very light winds due to my schedule and the Mother Nature's beef with me;) I have flown the kite in 6-7 knots and have even been able to go down wind without having the kite stall. I had the chance to try in variable 8-10 knots as well and was able to get some more down winders in. Kite is very responsive for flying such light winds. Perhaps if I was I was a lighter weight rider (I am 86KGs) or tried on a bigger board (was riding a standard twin tip) and was a better rider;) I might have been able to go up wind in the 10 knot winds. Looking forward to that 10-12 range to get a better feel for the Helium in more reasonable wind! As always, great quality kite and as advertised without the price! Thanks again Switch Kites!

(Posted on 4/05/15)
Merci Switch ! (Posted on 15/04/15)
Helium reviewReview by Rene
Tested the helium twice now. First with 4-6 knots just to see how it would perform. It was not enough wind to kite obviously. The next session started with 8 kts. I'm 90 kg so my 140x43 board wasn't big enough to keep my position. From 10 kts it just went beautiful. Quick turning upwind performance and even some smooth and lofty jumps. The kite feels smaller than an 18 m but delivers a lot of control and power. I have nothing to compare the kite with. It's my first light wind kite experience and I'm really happy with it. (Posted on 13/04/15)
Quite possibly the best kite I have riddenReview by Mark
I just tried my new Helium for the first time yesterday. I previously had a Spleene X19. I was amazed. Lots of power and yet easy to control and very very quick to turn in what was almost no wind. I weigh 115kg and was on a North Spike 162cm board. It just powered up and took me away with no effort. My friend arrived and had a go and was also impressed. He rides an Ozone Edge 17m and reckoned that his kite wouldn't have even flown in such light wind and yet he managed to pull off a small jump on the Helium.
VERY IMPRESSIVE! (Posted on 8/04/15)

Can ride in virtually no windReview by Andre
I tried my friends heliium last week , I weigh 75km and was on a 140cm twin tip with the wind about 8 knots. I was riding along fine without even having to move the kite up and down, I also found that the kite turns reasonably quick for such a large kite. Even at 8 knots I still had plenty of power that even one or 2 knots less would have been fine. (Posted on 16/03/15)
Can get you up and going in 8 knotsReview by Andrew
I have tried this kite a few times now as my friend has one. Have tried it in all the different wind ranges. The other day I tried it for the first time in 8 knot winds. I was so surprised, the kite was getting me going effortlessly, was even able to do some 2-3m jumps with great hang time. Another thing I like about the kite is it parks itself well at 12.00 without hindeburghing or falling out of the sky. (Posted on 9/03/15)
Definitely a session saverReview by Jay
I have yet to use this kite on water but I rode it on snow in light wind where 12's and 14's were barely going. I was ripping up the mountain and boosting very floaty far jumps but not high like my nitro. I loved the fast turning speed for such a large kite. Turns like a 14m to me with a very easy relaunch. Overall its a must have for every quiver. I can't wait to test out the low end with my foilboard as soon as all this damn snow melts. (Posted on 24/02/15)
Great Light Wind kite, exceeded my expectationsReview by John
I just returned fro St. Martin where I got to try my new Helium for the first time. The wind was 10 mph mid morning so I pumped up and launched the Helium. I was able to go up wind right away and I wasn't even on my Spleene door. I weigh 200 lbs and ride a split travel board 148 x 44. I am sure I will be able to ride in 7-8 mph on my door. I was impressed at how quick it turns for a big kite. I was able to kite loop it on the transitions. Although it doesn't boost as high as the Nitros, it has an insane hang time, almost like a paraglider! Eventually the wind picked up to about 15 mph and I was ready to go back and pump up my 12 Nitro but I was having too much fun. I just de powered to about half and kept riding. I never felt overpowered and the kite remained very controllable. I did some fast runs directly cross wind and the speed was amazing. I rode some waves on the reef break and the reserve power was really nice, I could ride really slow with the kite high and jump the narly waves easily. The kite was floaty if you need it for wave riding. The bar pressure was light for such a large kite, much less than expected. I rode for 4 hours and didn't feel wiped out when I had to leave. My compliments to Bill Hansen on the Helium, he really nailed it. I wasn't going to buy any larger than a Nitro 14 but I'm glad I bought the Helium. I have 6 Nitros and 2 Elements and this tops out my quiver perfectly. Thanks Switch for producing another Awesome kite! (Posted on 23/02/15)

Awesome light wind kite!!!Review by Adrian
The first thing I want to say is that this is my first Switch kite.

I flew the Helium last two days in 10-13 knots. The kite is extremely stable, quick turning, jumps great, goes extremely well upwind, pulls like a truck! The funniest thing is that it is so quick-much quicker than my (now) old 16m light wind kite.

If someone needs a light wind kite than this is for sure the one! And the price is just great.

Cheers

Cheers!
